Creative Discovery Museum is once again offering a unique shopping experience for children this holiday season. As part of the Museum’s winter exhibit, Winter Wonders, the Museum Shop will host the “The Holiday Shoppe” upstairs in the Discovery Library for children only, so that they may surprise mom, dad, siblings or grandparents with specially chosen gifts.

The store is designed for ‘kids only’ and caregivers will be asked to fill out an envelope that lists the child’s name, intended recipient of the gift and the amount of money to be spent. Volunteers and staff from the Museum will be on hand to assist children 12 and under with selecting an item for a loved one, wrapping and tagging the gift(s), and leaving the Holiday Shoppe with a gift ready for giving. The experience will allow young guests the opportunity to budget their money while shopping in a safe environment. Merchandise in the store will be reasonably priced and will range from $1-$10. Some of the suggested items range from scarves, jewelry and hand lotion to coffee mugs, flashlights and key chains.

“The Holiday Shoppe is a wonderful way for children to learn to think about others before themselves,” said Jayne Griffin, Director of Education at Creative Discovery Museum. “The Shoppe provides a way for children to practice independence in a safe setting while also practicing math skills by handling real cash—something they don’t always get to do in today’s world of debit cards and online payments.”
