If you love treasure hunting and collecting rocks, seashells or leaves, be sure to bring in your findings to Creative Discovery Museum’s Natural Treasures Trading Post, open on Thursdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate RiverRocks by bringing in your treasures, along with your knowledge of the item, to earn points or to trade.
Natural Treasures Trading Post will provide young learners with the opportunity to trade in their findings with cool collections of natural wonders from the Museum. Traders earn points for their own treasures based on the novelty of the object and their knowledge about the specimen. Natural Treasures Trading Post will maintain a point database in which points can be used for immediate trades or accumulated for future trades.
“Any outdoor excursion can turn into a treasure hunt when one sees natural spaces as potential treasure troves of one-of-a-kind finds,” said Karen Dewhirst, Museum Experience Manager at Creative Discovery Museum. “We are looking forward to encouraging a community of natural treasure hunters who have developed a joy of exploring the natural world.”
The Natural Treasures Trading Post is currently on display at Creative Discovery Museum on Thursdays and Sundays. Tradable objects include polished rocks, fossils, shells, horns, shed antlers, driftwood, bleached bones, skulls, pine cones, seed pods, shed snake skin, dead insects, leaves and tree cookies. Non-tradable objects include bird feathers, nests, eggs, wildflowers, animals (dead or alive) and other objects that may be infested with mites or insects, as well as anything that is protected or endangered.
