Creative Discovery Museum will host Sprout!, a day of celebrating kids in the garden, on April 9 from 12:00 to 4 :00 p.m. Guests from the Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, local gardening clubs and experts will invite kids to take part in activities and demonstrations throughout the Museum. Local guest chef, Chef Jericho Michel from The Terminal Brewhouse, will kick off the day at 11 a.m. with a fun pizza making lesson and the remaining activities will begin at noon.
Activities in the Museum’s Atrium:
- Take home a lettuce seedling provided by Jane Mauldin with Chattanooga Food Bank. Families will also receive information about seedling care and upcoming gardening seminars at Chattanooga Food Bank.
- Play Weeds vs. Food game and create fun, colored cards of local weeds and garden plants with guidance from theMaster Gardeners of Hamilton County.
- Insects: The Good, Bad and the Ugly – the Master Gardeners of Hamilton County will help children play a sorting game and learn about the different insects found in gardens.
- Master Gardeners show kids how sprouts can be grown without soil
- Learn how to stuff celery and make a yummy dip with The Veggie Lady, Marilyn Geraldson.
- Dig for Potatoes and sample lemon balm flavored water with the Master Gardeners of Hamilton County
Activities in the Museum’s Rooftop:
- “Plant the roof” with Battle Academy Garden Club
- Learn why its cool that Worms Eat Garbage and more great info about wiggly worms from Matt Thompson with Thompson Worm Farm
Culinary Corner activities:
- Learn how to make a scrumptious grilled veggie pizza with Chef Jericho Michel from The Terminal Brewhouse. This activity will begin at 11 a.m.
- Build a ROY G BIV salad (that’s a rainbow salad) at 12:00 and 2:00.
