The CSO opens the season with music inspired by the Renaissance-era Don Juan legend. Strauss’ work provides a sweeping energy mixed with love themes as the audience follows along in his romantic exploits. Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto, featuring prize-winning pianist Ning An, is one of the most beloved compositions in classical music. Listeners will immediately recognize its emotional melodies, particularly the 2nd movement, due to its popularity in films and modern music. Modern composer Joan Tower is featured with the second of her five compositions titled Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, dedicated to women who are adventurous and risk takers.
