Rimsky-Korsakov’s widely popular Scheherazade is based on The Tales of the Arabian Nights, and is firmly Russian with a flavor of “oriental” sound. The piece exhibits his skill in varying orchestral color. Joining the CSO on the first half is the 2013 winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, Stanislav Khristenko, in Chopin’s romantic Piano Concerto No. 1.
