Engineering is tons of fun when you get to think it, build it, and see results with the help from the pros at Creative Discovery Museum. Join expert engineers from the Society of Women Engineers at the Museum on February 18th from 12 to 4 p.m. and experience engineering fun!

The engineers will lead guests in hands-on exploration of engineering concepts. Whether building a book lift, learning about a chemical reaction or designing a new type of vehicle, guests will have a blast with the limitless possibilities when engineering principles are applied. The professionals will share their work and expertise in the major engineering fields.

Activities touch on the different types of engineering such as mechanical, chemical, civil and electrical and will include:

  1. Book Lift – solve an engineering challenge to lift a heavy book two inches above the table for ten seconds.
  2. Ping Pong Zip Line – figure out a way to get a ping pong ball down a zip line using only the materials provided.
  3. Snap Circuits – learn about simple electrical circuitry to light a bulb or turn on a buzzer
  4. Solar Powered Cars – manipulate a light source to make a solar powered car move through a trackway
  5. Shiny Penny – use simple chemistry to make a penny shine like new.
  6. Marble Painting – Rotate a ramp to create amazing artwork
  7. Trackway Teamwork – work together as a team to move a ball completely around a room to land in a bucket.

“Creative Discovery Museum has worked with local area engineers to host this celebration of Engineering Week for many years. It is a unique and valuable community collaboration to build understanding for the tasks engineers perform,” said Karen Dewhirst, Museum Experience Manager. “Watching guests approach problem solving in such unique and interesting ways is inspiring.”

Engineering Fun Day at Creative Discovery Museum is a part of Engineering Week, the Chattanooga Engineers Club's weeklong celebration of the engineering profession. More information about Engineering Week can be found at http://www.chattanoogaengineersweek.com and the National Engineering Week website at www.eweek.org.

Activities are included with paid admission to the Museum. For more information, visit www.cdmfun.org.
