Creative Discovery Museum is offering a unique shopping experience for children this holiday season to make gift giving more fun and a learning opportunity that can last a lifetime. As part of the Museum’s winter exhibit,Winter Wonders, the Museum Shop will host the “The Holiday Shoppe” upstairs in the Discovery Library for children only, so that they may surprise mom, dad, siblings or grandparents with specially chosen gifts.

Because this store is for kids only, caregivers will be asked to fill out an envelope listing the child’s name, the intended recipient of the gift, as well as the amount of money that is to be spent. Museum volunteers and staff will be available to assist children 12 and under select an item for a loved one, wrap and tag the gifts so that each child leaves the store with a gift ready for giving. This will enable very young children to feel the excitement of selecting special gifts and experience how to budget their money, while maintaining a safe shopping environment. Merchandise in the store will be reasonably priced at $1, $3, $5, $7, and $10. Some of the suggested items range from scarves, coffee mugs and hand lotion to ornaments, flashlights and key chains.

“The holidays are certainly the season for giving and provide a wonderful opportunity to allow children to experience the joy of giving to others,” states Dr. Jayne Griffin, the Museum’s Director of Education. “The Holiday Shoppe will empower children to choose the perfect gift for people they love.”
