Creative Discovery Museum will welcome the Atlanta-based Capitol City Opera Company on Saturday, November 20 to perform the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel at 2 p.m. This is the only Chattanooga-based event offering opera specifically to children. Museum guests may attend a pre-show discussion of what opera is and the themes of positive personal and social behavior as dramatically illustrated in the performance. In addition, five children from the audience will have an opportunity to participate in non-speaking costumed roles.

“Opera is a great experience, but most children aren’t as familiar with it,” said Creative Discovery Museum’s Arts Manager, Liza Blair. “Opera is a great way to showcase two unique art forms, singing and stage performance, while celebrating the holiday season with the timeless classic, Hansel and Gretel.”

Capital City Opera Company is an established resident repertory opera troupe with over 20 years experience. They perform fully staged and costumed operas specifically for kids.

The performance is free with paid admission to the Museum.

This program is part of Creative Discovery Museum’s Artist in Residency program which is funded through Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and Tennessee Arts Commission.
