Creative Discovery Museum will open its doors to welcome guests to Gourd Town on November 13. Celebrating the harvest season and the multi-dimensionality of the common gourd, this homage to small town fun is part of the Museum’s annual Gourd Festival. From noon to 4 p.m., guests may participate in demonstrations, music, art, and games incorporating pumpkins, squash, and other members of the gourd family.
"The Gourd Festival is a throw-back to small town events specializing in local traditions and home-grown ingredients. This event is intended to offer a time to celebrate the season and expand kids’ knowledge of gourds and how they can be used,” states Liza Blair, Creative Discovery Museum's Arts Manager.
The festival will feature food demonstrations using pumpkins and squash. Musicians and artists will share how they find creative uses for gourds in their works. Gourd sack races, a pumpkin roll, and a squash toss are some of the fun games kids can enjoy. Guests may even be greeted by the Mayor of Gourd Town as he oversees the day’s festivities.
All activities are free with paid admission to the Museum.
Artist support is provided through funding from Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and Tennessee Arts Commission.
