Creative Discovery Museum is laying down the tracks for a unique program designed for Preschoolers to experience the Museum through multi-sensory, hands-on activities that incorporate science, music, art, literacy and lots of fun! On November 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., children can chug along from one station to the next and learn all about trains for the first in a series of Adventure Saturdays for Preschoolers at the Museum.

This new series of programming is intended to provide greater enriching Museum experiences for children age 18 months to 4 years. Each activity will be educationally and developmentally appropriate, so children will experience the theme of the day in a variety of ways that will be exciting for them. On November 6, the young Museum-goers will work their way to different train car stations where they can make a train car costume, decorate a conductor hat to wear, learn about the science of trains, and customize a wooden train whistle. There will also be an intellectual skill table where children can manipulate shapes and learn about common shapes found in trains, as well as, create a name train.

Museum staff will lead a graham cracker and icing activity where children will have an opportunity to make an edible train engine. Plus, the Museum will welcome a train conductor from Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum to visit with kids from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The conductor will be dressed in uniform to talk about the function of trains and the duties of a conductor and have coal and other items from the railroad station for kids to see. From 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Atrium, a musician will offer sing along fun to encourage kids to participate in songs about locomotives. The day’s adventure will end with children lining up in their boxcar costumes as part of a musical train that weaves throughout the Museum from 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

“Young children learn best through multi-sensory activities,” states Lu Lewis, the Museum’s Early Childhood Manager and an expert in the field of early childhood development. “We’re excited to offer unique experiences, and for some of these young children, introductions to science, music, movement, literature, and thinking skills. And of course, we promise to have lots of fun!”

This event is free with paid admission to the Museum.
