Creative Discovery Museum welcomes authors Jamina Carder and Kaaren Engel to share their creative work, Herman’s Journey, a true story about two friends and a caterpillar and their gadabout to Chattanooga. This special storytime event will be held on Sunday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. and will include an exciting telling of the story with music, singing, dancing, and drumming.
With colorful illustrations by Kaaren Engel, the touching tale of Herman’s Journey chronicles the adventures of a bright green caterpillar who hitches a ride in a car to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Filled with joy, wonder and amazement, this book appeals to children of all ages and is dedicated to anyone who has ever wanted to fly.
The true story began in 2008, when two friends, Jamina and Kaaren, drove to Chattanooga to take part in a musical celebration known as a kirtan. They were startled to discover a bright green caterpillar had ridden in the car with them along their journey. Herman, the caterpillar, was their companion throughout the day as they visited friends, stopped in local shops, and attended the celebration. With a surprise ending, this dynamic presentation incorporates elements of storytelling, dance, and illustration to entertain guests of all ages.
"Herman's Journey is a sweet tale and one kids and adults will love to hear," states Liza Blair, Arts Manager for Creative Discovery Museum. “Using various elements of artistic expression, this presentation has resonating appeal. Guests will be further drawn into the story as the tellers relate familiar places and sights around town.”
