On July 27 at 2 p.m., guests of Creative Discovery Museum will witness newfound inspiration through vibrant singing, dancing, and the exuberant expressions of hopeful children with a performance by the Ugandan Orphans Choir. The Ugandan Orphans Choir consists of 5 girls and 5 boys, singing and dancing their way through the United States bringing awareness and relief to the poverty stricken children across the world.

The Ugandan Orphans Choir brings their message of hope through colorful African costumes and traditional instruments including drums and pan pipes as the children sing and dance a variety of African tribal songs. One such dance originates from Bwota and is called the “Dance of Courage”. This dance is commonly performed in large ceremonies.

“The Ugandan Orphans Choir is a perfect opportunity for guests to see and hear expressive folk arts of a diverse culture while gaining a better perspective of cultural arts and worldviews,” states Liza Blair, Museum Arts Manager.

Childcare Worldwide makes the Choir’s tour possible. In Uganda alone, there are over 2 million children living as orphans. This organization sponsors children to participate in the choir and provides them with opportunities to advance their art of dance and music, as well as encourage them to continue their education. Touring with the Choir opens the children’s eyes to opportunities that exist through sharpening their talents and skills. The goal is to offer children in Africa a new perspective of hope and success through education and hard work in order to break the cycle of family poverty.

The performance at the Museum is sponsored in part by Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and Tennessee Arts Commission.
