Surprises await summer campers at Creative Discovery Museum! With a variety of themes, lessons, and excitement around every corner, the Museum is offering one of a kind day camp experiences for ages 4 - 5 and children in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

“Camps at Creative Discovery Museum offer a great deal of variety for children,“ states Lynne Mulligan, Programs Manager for the Museum. “Not only do kids have access to the Museum’s exhibits and special programming, but we make sure to utilize our downtown resources with field trips and outside play, as well.” For instance, Kindergarten – 2nd grade campers in the “Ponies, Pioneers, and Prairie Dogs” group will take a trip to explore a local farm and experience a bit of farm-life fun.

Half-day camps are available for 4 and 5 year olds, providing a great first-time camp experience. Museum staff ensures a safe, fun environment with Museum play, theme-related crafts, time in the Culinary Corner, and a variety of activities that relate to the camp’s individual theme.

“The themes are child-friendly and activities vary each day. We also mix-up the themes each year to reflect current interests, so many campers return year after year,” says Mrs. Mulligan. “It really is neat to see the friendships that develop between the campers and counselors as we, as educators, get to know the families and build those relationships over time.”

A featured theme for 2010 will include activities related to the Museum’s upcoming summer exhibit, Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body. Campers will be amazed by all the science they will learn during this week of camp. It is sure to be the talk of the summer for these campers (and counselors) according to Mrs. Mulligan.
