Family fun, food and entertainment for all ages highlight the Friends of East Brainerd event.

East Brainerd’s third annual HubFest is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Heritage Park. Named in honor of the park’s distinctive Hub sculpture, HubFest is a family-oriented festival of activities, food and entertainment. The festival provides local business sponsors the opportunity to partner with the residents of East Brainerd for the area’s premier community celebration. The festival begins at 10:00 am and will end at 3:00 pm, rain or shine.

As May 9th is the day before Mother’s Day, the event is being organized with a focus on mothers, grandmothers and their children. Children will have the opportunity to work with volunteers to make gifts for their mothers. Honors will also be given to the newest mother, mother who traveled the furthest, most grandchildren present and the most children present in one family!

Additionally, plans include child-friendly activities, inflatables and games, as well as a variety of demonstrations by area craftsmen and artists. Arts, FREE crafts and a wide variety of food will be available for purchase at the event. Children will have the opportunity to enjoy pony rides within the park. Entertainment will be provided by Mike Harris, Rachel Holder, Wee Dance and The Jukebox Junction. The Chattanooga Bocce Club will also be providing lessons and demonstrations on the courts in the Park. Best Buy will be on hand to provide FREE photos with Mom!

HubFest has been organized as an opportunity for area businesses, schools, churches and approved non-profit organizations to become an integral part of the festival. Opportunities include:

* Business sponsorships levels of $100, $250, $500 and $1000 or a $2000 title sponsorship still available.
* Businesses or individuals may donate art and craft supplies or monies for supplies such as colored pencils, crayons, watercolors, drawing or craft paper. Bars of curved soaps suitable for the carving of turtles and frogs are also requested.
* Volunteers are needed to assist arts and craft participants as they work with children to create special gifts for their mothers and to coordinate activities and games.
* Non-profit groups (churches, schools, civic groups, Scouts, etc.) to help set up and clean up on the day of the festival.
* Artists, art teachers and craftspeople to work with children in the creation of craft gifts for themselves or for their mothers.
* Non-profit groups to provide a variety of festival concessions such as baked goods, desserts and snacks. All proceeds netted by approved non-profit groups are kept by and fully benefit those organizations.
* Artists and craftspeople to demonstrate and/or sell arts and crafts.

“We hope area businesses, neighbors and friends will come together on Saturday, May 9th to celebrate our East Brainerd community as well as our mothers and children at Heritage Park,” said Sabrena Turner, Chair of HubFest 2009. “We want attendees to come away having had fun and quality family time together at Heritage Park.” Heritage Park is located at 1428 Jenkins Road, near the intersection of Jenkins Road and East Brainerd Road.

HubFest is the creation of committee members from the Friends of East Brainerd (FOEB). HubFest 2009 is co-sponsored by Friends of East Brainerd, Chattanooga Education, Arts & Culture Department, the Brainerd/East Brainerd Council of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce and area businesses and the Chattanooga Department of Parks and Recreation.

The FOEB is a non-profit organization established in 2002 by neighborhood associations and area businesses to implement smart growth in East Brainerd. Critical issues have included establishment of a mixed use development zone, improving traffic flow, gaining more pedestrian/bike/greenway access, facilitation of more outdoor public spaces, beautification of the East Brainerd area and a variety of arts initiatives. The FOEB is approved by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501 C (3) organization.
