Adapted from the beloved Dickens story, it is an all-new production of a show originally written by Suzie Varga and Thomas Rodgers in 1981 for the Rhea County High Chorus. Songs were by Bob Merril and Jules Styne.
The new production, directed by Thomas Rodgers, has a script rewrite, an expanded cast, and three new songs by Hunter Rodgers and Thomas Rodger. Roy Smith is accompanist and Karen Slikker is choreographer.
The twenty-one-member cast features Clyde Armstrong (Scrooge), Nathan Harrison and Jamie McIntosh (younger Scrooges), Spring City Mayor Mary Sue Garrison (Mrs. Fezziwig), Jim Hevelone (old Fezziwig), Robert Rains (Jacob Marley), Chris Beam (Bob Cratchit), Anessa Van Horn (Mrs. Cratchit). The Cratchit kids are played by Jamie Stiles, Jamie McIntosh. Shane McInernery is Tiny Tim. The cast also features the Horton family (David, Christian, and Evan). In addition, the ensemble includes a "Ghostly Chorus," a Den of Thieves, a gaggle of caroling Street People, as well as a herd of Street Urchins. Roger Hinsdale is heading up a construction crew supplying some imaginative sets. In addition to the regular weekend performances, there will be a number of mid-week school matinees.
The project is funded, in part, by Arts Build Communities – A program funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Southeast Tennessee Development District.
