The South's top college men's and women's tennis teams will compete for "best in the region" awards at the Southern States Athletic Conference being held at the City of Chattanooga's Champion's Club Tennis Complex on Friday and Saturday, April 18th and 19th.
"Close to 300 players and coaches as well as folks who support the teams will be here", explains George Starr, Sports Information Director at Lee University. Colleges and universities participating in the tournament include: Auburn University-Auburn, AL, Berry College-Mount Berry, GA, Emanuel College-Franklin Springs, GA, Lee University-Cleveland,TN, Reinhardt College-Waleska, GA and Shorter College-Rome, GA. Mr. Starr shares that Auburn University's team is ranked number one for both its mens and womens teams by the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and their teams are defending champions.
Champion's Club Tennis Complex Manager Orlando Lourenco enthuses, "Having this conference at Champion's Club is a great opportunity for the many high school players to see what college play and competition is like...especially kids on the cusp of deciding whether or not to pursue college tennis." "This will give them the chance to see the best players and high energy competition."
The public is welcome and, tennis lovers are encouraged, to come out and watch.
