ABOUT THE PRODUCTION:
Girls Preparatory School and McCallie School present the GPS/McCallie Upper School Spring Musical, Fiddler on the Roof—a true musical theater tradition that has touched the lives of millions around the world—at GPS Frierson Theatre April 12-14.

Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964 and based on the beloved short stories series of Tevye and his daughters (e.g. Tevye the Dairyman) by Sholem Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof is the brainchild of Broadway legends Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince, songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and book writer Joseph Stein. Moving audiences worldwide with its memorable music and dialogue, this universal show features a wonderful mix of humor, heart, and human nature.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, Ukraine, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his girls and instill in them traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Tsarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across lines of race, class, nationality, and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy, and sadness.

With iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” Fiddler on the Roof is a rich and unforgettable experience that will leave you shouting “L’chaim!”
