Back Alley Productions is set to debut a free Shakespeare summer series with a traveling production of "Macbeth."

Six performances of the dark classic, one of the Bard's best-known tragedies, are scheduled over the next three weekends, including one performance out-of-doors.

The story tells of the rise and fall of a prominent Scottish general whose thirst for power drives him into evil. As Macbeth rises into kingship, the bodies fall in his path. And as the kingdom crumples under Macbeth's dangerous ambition, his sanity begins to collapse with it. The play is known for its iconic witches, dark prophecy, political masterminding and high body count.

All shows are free, but donations are appreciated as they help fund the hard work that has gone into the production, says director Kaylee Smith.

According to Smith, this is Back Alley's ninth show since the company was founded in 2011 and its third show this season. The troupe includes actors and crew members from Dalton, Ringgold and Tunnel Hill in Georgia as well as Chattanooga and Hixson.

James Caleb Reed is co-director and combat choreographer. The show runs roughly two hours, plus a 15-minute intermission.
