Indigo dyeing is a magical chemical process that makes it the king of natural dyeing. In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of how to build and maintain an indigo vat with all natural ingredients. A few group vats will be provided to demonstrate this process and you will be given instructions and resources so you can easily recreate the experience in your own home. We will provide some test fabric for each participant of different natural fibers, but feel free to bring your own shirts, scarfs, fabric to experiment with!

Ongeleigh Underwood is the owner of Temperate, a women clothing line using all natural dyes and American grown cotton. She is an advocate for strengthening the local fiber community through Fibershed and spends her days traveling to regional fiber farms, dyeing, or sewing.
