With Dr. Robert Ballard
Underwater Explorer and President of the Institute for Exploration at Mystic Aquarium

Book signing, cash bar and reception to follow

Among the most recognized deep-sea explorers, Bob Ballard is best known for his historic discoveries of hydrothermal vents, the R.M.S. Titanic, the German battleship Bismarck and other numerous shipwrecks around the world. A 2003 recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities Medal, Ballard has spent his career pushing the boundaries of technology to explore the last great frontier of the deep ocean to better understand and preserve these waters for the future.

Ballard and his team of scientists explore uncharted underwater frontiers in the deep ocean from the research vessel E/V Nautilus. Using advanced technology, Ballard's team is able to make biological and archaeological discoveries, map the deepest sea floors and instantly share these ground-breaking missions with others across the globe. On his most recent voyage, an audience of all ages watched live as the expedition discovered deep-water coral habitats off the coast of Israel, underwater volcanoes, many never-before-seen marine species, and an Italian World War II plane off the coast of Sicily. During his presentation, Dr. Ballard will share stunning images that illustrate his most recent work with personal accounts of exploring the ocean's depths. He will also explain how he uses 'tele-presence' technology to bring others along on real-time, virtual expeditions.

Seating is limited and on a first-come basis. Registration is strongly encouraged.
