In honor of World Diabetes Day, the Chattanooga Times Free Press and other local organizations are sponsoring a free educational event. Changing Diabetes in Chattanooga will be on Saturday, November 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be at 2 North Shore at 301 Manufacturers Road in North Chattanooga.

The Tennessee Government Department of Health reports that in the state of Tennessee, diabetes has a prevalence rate of 9.1 percent, exceeding the already high national rate of 7.3 percent. And with rates in the state almost doubling over ten years, education is critical to keep the disease from growing exponentially.

At Changing Diabetes in Chattanooga, Certified Diabetes Educators will be available for one-on-one consultation, blood sugar screenings will be offered, glucose monitors will be given away, and a schedule of seminars on the hour throughout the event will all be offered for free.

In addition to the educational information, free services and medical consultations, there will be a raffle of gifts from area businesses for participants and live music. Free parking will be available.

Changing Diabetes in Chattanooga is being sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, Chattanooga Times Free Press, 2 North Shore, Greenlife Grocery, and Novo Nordisk.
