Returning for their third performance at the UTC Fine Arts Center, Imago Theatre brings their fanciful characters and hilarious situations both new and old back for a wonderful evening of whimsy.
Founded in 1979 by Carol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad, Imago Theatre has toured internationally for over two decades. Triffle and Mouawad have been called alchemists, magicians, theatrical animators, and physical comedians. Defying classification, they populate the stage with characters and beings such as comedic amphibians, acrobatic larvae, circus boulders, and metamorphosing humans in works which tantalize the senses, the intellect, and the passions. From adaptations of classics to excursions into vaudevillian existentialism, Imago's repertoire is as vast as the forms they shape. With commissions for stage, film, and television, Imago blurs the lines of the expected to break new ground, exploding performance boundaries yet maintaining humor and humanity.
Imago’s unique, playful menagerie of creatures fill the stage in their latest production, ZooZoo. The universal nature of Imago’s world has won audience and critical acclaim in tours across Asia, Europe, Canada and the U.S. where they were awarded the New York Dance Film Award and “Best Touring Production” by Independent Reviewers of New England. Imago has been hailed by critics world-wide for their sophisticated, highly entertaining works for all ages.
