VOICES OF THE SOUTH presents a reading by the original cast of the award-winning play CICADA by Jerre Dye.
Set in rural Mississippi, Cicada is a coming-of-age ghost story deeply rooted in the life of a small Southern family on the verge of transformation. Poetic, dynamic, lyrical and hard-hitting, this unique piece of theater sheds light on the enduring southern spirit by exploring the complexity of the ties that bind.
Cicada is the winner of four Ostrander awards (presented for Memphis Community Theatre productions) including Best Actress, Best Sound Design and Best Production of an Original Script. This month, Cicada’s author and Voices of the South’s artistic director Jerre Dye will be awarded The Bryan Family Award for Dramatic Literature from the prestigious Fellowship of Southern Writers.
