It's rare that an unsolicited inquiry from a performer lends them an ASAP gig at Barking Legs, but Cahalen and Eli did it. More accurately hearing them did it, with very fine picking and singing, fresh material and a beautiful debut CD produced by Matt Flinner and endorsed by Dirk Powell. Hearing is believing, and you shouldn't miss these guys on their first visit to Chattanooga.
With a handful of acoustic instruments and the clear harmonies of bluegrass song traditions, Cahalen and Eli have created an entirely new strain of roots music. Their sound crosses the warmth old-time with the fierceness of bluegrass, and high lonesome harmonies that would fit into any evening at the Opry. Together, they’ve taken time-tested musical traditions and bent them into new shapes to fit a new world.
"Cahalan and Eli are making music that the world needs.”
Tim O’Brien
“Eli and Cahalen sing about all of it. No note is left unreflected upon. They understand that when it comes to music, we are all on the receiving side, even when we are the ones playing it.”
Dirk Powell
“One gets the feeling that either of these musicians could step forward and take over with emphatic, egocentric playing and singing. Instead, they seem to have a profound reverence for the music and a considered appreciation for the whole of their endeavors.”
