The Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga thrws its Christmas wreath into the ring with its original holiday offering, SILENT CHRISTMAS. "Looking around at the local theatre offerings, we noticed that a lot of companies were presenting popular remounts, we knew we needed something new and unique in order to compete," mentions Founding Producing Partner Garry Lee Posey.
"Imagine if a character's story could only be told through Christmas music, your thoughts, your feelings, your emotions, your reactions to the people around them, that is the essence of SILENT CHRISTMAS," mentions Producing Partner and Music Director John Thomas Cecil. Throughout the 2010 season, ETC has been defiantly exploring the craft of theatre. February's THE DEADLIES started rehearsals without a script and asked actors to serve as playwrights; April's MIXED MEDIA saw visual art serving as the inspiration for four short plays which in turned inspired four more pieces of visual art; September's ROMEO AND JULIET used dance to enhance the storytelling. SILENT CHRISTMAS removes the use of conventional dialogue and uses popular sacred and secular Chrsitmas music in it's place.
"As a theatre company, we pride ourselves on non-literal translations and metaphoric presentations in an attempt to push ourselves as artists and redefine our audience from mere spectators to participants, whether that be mentally or physically. Christmas music, regardless of how much I hear it, makes me smile, warms my heart, moves me, affects me and it always has," says Posey, "although it might be a generalization to say this, I think it affects the majority of people similarly." SILENT CHRISTMAS centers around 6 stranded guests at a truck stop diner outside Bethlehem, PA. Each with their own personal struggle. A wounded child arrives and as the six guests heal the child, they too find healing.
Marianna Allen, Bill LaPoint, Ryan Laskowski, Morgan Robbins, Ellen Poole, Jamie Goodnight and Kalena Wood are featured in SILENT CHRISTMAS. The story concept and direction are provided by Garry Lee Posey, Music Direction by John THomas Cecil.
