Faun Fables are Drag City artists of tremendous repute visiting from California. Their core is vocalist Dawn McCarthy and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's Nils Frykdahl. They make haunting, enchanted music which is at once folk-like and utterly otherwordly. Enchanting and unforgettable.

"The main instrument here is McCarthy's astonishing voice which she uses to build up layers of fantastic imagery pulled from the gigantic storybook inside her head. Echoes of The Incredible String Band and even The Great Society are present, but the wolf haunted world that Faun Fables invites you to explore has been solely invented by McCarthy." Wire

"All the eerie clanging Frykdahl places onto Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is winnowed into bittersweet, atmospheric song for Faun Fables- letting his reed-thin melodies be guided by the muse in McCarthy; a dramatic diva whose take on gauzy folk (Eyes of a Bird) and religious-tinged opera (Higher) is akin to an aural version of ROSEMARY'S BABY." David Daniell (San Agustin) and Douglas McCombs (Tortoise) first met in early 2006 while touring as members of Rhys Chatham's six-guitar Die Donnergötter band. Both are highly-respected musicians within their circles. Over the years Daniell has collaborated with many notable musicians, including Loren Connors, Rhys Chatham, Tim Barnes, Jeph Jerman, Thurston Moore, Greg Davis, and Jonathan Kane, as well as releasing numerous albums under his own name and with his band San Agustin on labels such as Table of the Elements and Family Vineyard. McCombs is more often seen wielding a bass guitar, whether as a member of Eleventh Dream Day, the acoustic collective Pullman, or the pioneering and inimitable Tortoise; in his role as the driving force behind Brokeback; or through his varied work with the likes of Tom Ze, Azita Youseffi, Will Oldham, Yo La Tengo, and Calexico.

"...delicate, abstract guitar symphonies... nothing short of stunning." The Deli

"So it’s probably no real shock that these two met whilst moonlighting in Rhys Chatham’s mighty six-guitar Die Donnergötterband. A point which is all too relevant when you hear the depth and breadth of the guitar music they’ve made on Sycamore [their CD together] – this is the Big Music: room-filling swells of sound, at once obviously made from guitars, yet rising beyond the medium to scrape at something else."
