The Three Worlds of the Cherokee is an exhibit of carved stone gorgets, pendants and free-standing sculptures by Robert Maney. The exhibit was curated by Dr. Michael Abram who owns the Cherokee Heritage Museum in Cherokee, North Carolina. These pieces a part of the museum's permanent collection.
Dr. Abram has constructed a visual depiction of the seven directions understood by Cherokees - North, South, East and West as well as the vertical planes of Above, Below and The Center Where I Am. These vertical directions are also thought of as the Three Worlds of the Cherokee shaman, who is tuned to the Upper World, Under World, and This World. Within this framework, he has placed 56 of Robert Maney's sculptures which eloquently express the occupants of those three worlds, and their powers.
Dr. Abram is the owner of the world's largest collection of contemporary Cherokee art.
