Lace up your running shoes and sprint, crawl or toddle downtown to join Creative Discovery Museum’s first annual Family Fun Run! Runners and crawlers will meet on Saturday, April 24 for healthy fun for the entire family. From infants to grandparents, the Family Fun Run organizers are making strides to include all ages in this heart pounding event.
The Family Fun Run is a compliment to the Museum’s Good For You: Healthy Fun on the Run exhibit. “The exhibit show s a variety of ways children can be active and eat healthy,” states Lynne Mulligan, Programs Manager for Creative Discovery Museum. “The Fun Run event is another opportunity for children and their caregivers to experience the fun of healthy living as a family.” The exhibit, Good For You, was produced by Creative Discovery Museum with funding from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Health Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The event will highlight a Kiddie Crawl for ages 18 months and younger and a Toddler Trot for walkers up to 4 years of age. Both of these races will take place at the Chattanooga Lookouts AT&T Field. The babies will be challenged to be the first to break the circle as they charge toward mom or dad. Toddlers will get to “trot” across a portion of the field in true style of future Lookouts players.
“Both the Kiddie Crawl and Toddler Trot will be quite exciting to watch,” continues Mrs. Mulligan. “While laughter and enjoyment is always part of our purpose, we included these two races to show families that it is good to practice the habit of active lifestyles at a very young age.”
The Kiddie Crawl will start at 8:30 a.m., followed immediately by the Toddler Trot. Then at 9 a.m. the Family Fun Run will begin. Participants are invited to run, jog, walk, trot or stroll your little one along the approximately 1 mile course down Power Alley to the river and back up to AT&T Field. The start and finish of the Family Fun Run will be held at the Chattanooga Lookouts AT&T Field. The Run is for all family members, but children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Participants are invited to enjoy post-race snacks and drinks.
Pre-registration is required for all participants and paperwork must be received no later than Friday, April 23, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. A limited number of participants will be accepted for each event. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
