Help the Friends of the Cumberland Trail preserve our region's cultural and natural heritage by joining us at a benefit concert featuring Roane County fiddle masters Mike Bryant and Charlie McCarroll. Mike Bryant is recognized as one of the greatest Old-Time fiddlers playing today. His playing remains faithful to the older sounds but has a delightful freshness and drive. Seventy-five year old Charlie McCarroll carries on the musical legacy of his father Jimmy McCarroll. Charlie’s ancestors were some of the finest musicians to ever draw a bow across a fiddle in Roane County. His father, Jimmy McCarroll and his Roane County Ramblers produced some of the greatest, most driving recordings of the hillblilly era. Between 1928-1929, they produced twelve recordings including Jimmy McCarroll’s composition, “Hometown Blues,” which has endured as the “The Lee Highway Blues.” Charlie will fiddle tunes from his family’s tradition with able ac companiment from guitarist Tony Thomas and our very own Park Manager Robert J. Fulcher. Bring your music and dancing shoes because after a delightful evening of songs and fiddle music, all are invited to participate in a rousing square dance.
