Plans are being finalized for the 5th annual Moustache Friday celebration, slated for March 26, 2010. Chattanooga area bars will be offering drink specials to men with moustaches, and a rock show featuring Up With the Joneses, Ghost Finger and the Nim Nims is also scheduled.
Festivities for the 5th annual celebration of the moustache will begin with a group photo and drink special at 8 p.m. at JJs Bohemia, located at the corner of MLKing and Lindsay in downtown Chattanooga. Music will begin at 10 p.m.
Along with the show and specials at JJs Bohemia, drink specials will be offered at Parkway Billiards, Market Street Tavern, Tremont Tavern, Raw, Northshore, Midtown, Pickle Barrel and Coltrane's. Limited Edition T-shirts celebrating the 5th anniversary of Moustache Friday will be available at JJs Bohemia.
The fourth Friday in March has been set aside as Moustache Friday, a day to acknowledge and celebrate the awesome power of the moustache. Ordinarily moustache-less men are encouraged to grow a moustache in any style, but fake moustaches are not permitted.
"It's amazing how there are people you've never seen at any other location, but their face has become familiar on Moustache Friday," co-organizer Chris Eves said. "A lot of people take their moustaches seriously, and this night is for them."
Begun as a bet, the first Moustache Friday consisted of only a handful of friends, but the celebration has grown each year. In 2009, record numbers of moustaches were seen throughout the city, with as many as 75 moustaches being photographed during the event.
There is no competition, and no prizes are awarded during Moustache Friday.
"The moustache is its own reward," co-organizer Tim Medlin said, adding, "On Moustache Friday, everyone wins."
