UTC faculty member, Clint Schmitt, on the Saxophone, will be accompanied by Guest Artists, Sin-Hsing Tsai and David Walters, on the piano. The performance will be held in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall at the UTC Fine Arts Center, Friday, January 22, 2010, 7:30 PM. Admission is free.

Mr. Schmitt has chosen to feature two works by award winning composers of our time, “Beneath the Veiled Light” for flute, alto saxophone and piano by Paul Osterfield of Nashville, TN and “Lost in Translation” for soprano saxophone and piano by Dorothy Hindman, of Birmingham, AL. Hindman’s piece written while she was a Visiting Artist in the Fall of 2005 at the American Academy in Rome. Of the work, Hindman says that it “…deals with the phenomenon of attempting to communicate in a new language before one is proficient.”

Also featured on the program will be the “Concertpiece for two Alto Saxophones” by Paul Hindemith, written in 1933. To perform this work Mr. Schmitt will be joined by his son, Aaron Schmitt. Other works on the program include the “Five Exotic Dances” by Jean Francaix, “Brilliance” by Ida Gotkovsky, and Gary Schocker’s “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano.”
