In an effort increase the awareness and importance of arts and culture within the Chattanooga community, the Chattanooga African American Museum will host cultural activities and performances on the third Thursdays of each month beginning Thursday, April 16 from 7 pm – 9 pm. Museum officials thought of no better way to kick off the Third Thursdays initiative, than to host a birthday celebration to honor the Empress of the Blues, Bessie Smith. Bessie Smith was born on April 15 and would have celebrated her 105th birthday this year.

This adult only event will feature a full cash bar, light refreshments, entertainment by Creative Underground, under the direction of Shane Morrow.

While this is a member only event, individuals interested in attending the birthday celebration can become a member for only $20. This special rate, a $15 savings, will be extended through April 31 in celebration of Bessie Smith.

The best way to experience everything the Chattanooga African American Museum (CAAM) has to offer is through the benefits of membership. Members of the museum are offered a wide range of benefits including unlimited admission for twelve months and advance notice of CAAM events..
