Power and Domesticity: The Architectural Legacy of TVA
International Design and Modernist Persuasion
The Photographs of Richard Barnes
Photographs of the early design work of the Tennessee Valley Authority in its contemporary context, by internationally recognized photographer Richard Barnes, are on exhibit from Saturday, Feb. 28 through March 21st at Smart Furniture Studio in the Two North Shore complex at 313 Manufacturers Road in Chattanooga.
The images were commissioned for The Tennessee Valley Authority: Design and Persuasion, edited by Tim Culvahouse, with an afterword by Senator Howard Baker, published recently by Princeton Architectural Press. Copies of the book and individual framed prints will be available for purchase at the exhibit.
The public exhibit is sponsored and coordinated by the Tennessee Architecture Foundation. After its premiere in Chattanooga, the photography collection will travel to other major cities of the Tennessee Valley, where local showings will be coordinated with local AIA chapters.
