Families Encouraged to Attend an Informational Session to Learn about Process
Chattanooga, Tenn. (March 13, 2009) --- Today, officials from the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy announced that they will begin the application process to Hamilton County’s first all girls public charter school on March 17.
The Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy will open its doors on July 27 with fifty 6th and twenty-five 9th grade students and will add two new grades each year with the ultimate goal of being a 6th -12thgrade school, serving a maximum of 350 girls. The school will serve girls who are attending or zoned for a school that is failing to meet its Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) or those girls in grades 5 or 8 who tested below proficiency in math and/or language arts on the previous year’s TCAP.
5th grade girls currently attending either Eastside Elementary School or Lookout Valley Elementary are eligible for CGLA’s incoming 6th grade class. Girls in the 8th grade who are currently attending Howard Middle, East Lake Academy, Ooltewah Middle, Hunter Middle, Soddy Daisy Middle, Loftis Middle or Lookout Valley Middle are eligible for CGLA’s incoming 9th grade class, along with current 8th graders zoned for Howard High, Ooltewah High, Soddy Daisy High or Lookout Valley High.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend one of the following informational sessions to learn about the application and admissions process. Sessions will be held twice a day from 10 am – 11:30 am and from 6 pm – 7:30 pm on the following days:

The sessions will be held at the school located at 1200 Grove Street. Additional sessions in community-based locations throughout the County will be held in April.
Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy will offer a college preparation curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. In addition to academics, the school will focus on building girls’ confidence, self-esteem and cultivating leadership skills. The year round and tuition free school will begin its journey on Monday, July 27, 2009.
