AEC Spring Independent Film Series

Iranian artist Marjane Satrapi brings her bold autobiographical sketches to the big screen in this animated tale of a feisty Iranian girl during the Islamic Revolution. When religious fundamentalists take control, the heroine and her friends are forced to wear the veil; social freedoms are curtailed. Worse is to come when Iran goes to war with Iraq. Eventually her parents send her abroad to receive a European education, but she loves her family and country too much to stay away for long. Persepolis received eight awards and 10 nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
