Fresh, tasty vegetables are back in season and with the return of warm weather comes the second season of Cooking on the Rooftop: Summer Food Series at Creative Discovery Museum. Children and families are invited to put on their “chef” hats, as Chef Nick from 212 Market Restaurant teaches them how simple, fast and healthy meals can be. Chef Nick will be on-site preparing delicious, healthy summer favorites using local, fresh ingredients, including produce and herbs from Creative Discovery Museum’s Rooftop Garden.

“Cooking on the Rooftop is a great way to show how simple preparing local, seasonal ingredients can be when designing healthy menus,” said Liza Blair, Arts Manager at Creative Discovery Museum. “Children and adults will be able to taste wonderful meals from Chef Nick while learning how to prepare the same dish at home.”

212 Market Restaurant is Chattanooga’s only green and solar-powered restaurant and is a proud supporter of the “slow food” movement. 212 Market is committed to working with local farmers and ranchers to provide high quality produce, eggs, fresh water fish and flowers.

“This experience encourages children to sample fresh ingredients first hand,” said Blair. “Both Creative Discovery Museum and 212 Market are committed to using seasonal fresh ingredients that help support the community and educate others on the benefits of eating healthy.”

This event is supported by funding from Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga and Tennessee Arts Commission and is included in the price of admission. For more information, visit www.cdmfun.org.
